evaluation 2

My advertisement I believe that my advert is a good advert and it portrays all of the elements that I wanted it to; it has a clear message, a good range of camera shots and is creative. My favorite shot is the close up shot of the trophy at the end with the logos, I think this shot works well because it has there trophy that is used earlier on in the advert and I have put it into the left hand side of the shot sitting on the corner of a shelf this shows that I have paid attention and used the rule of thirds. By putting the trophy into the left hand side I created space for the logos, which were key to have in my advertisement.

I think the best part of the advertisement is the small narrative at the fake awards ceremony. I created this fake awards ceremony because I didn’t want to have lots of different clips of different people doing different types of drama I though it would be more engaging for the audience if they could have a small piece of narrative to actually watch in the advert. It was very hard to create a setting that could have been an awards ceremony but to then have to add in various sounds and use a number r of different shots so that when I started editing I was able to make it at least look somewhat realistic was very hard. To create the narrative clip I used, tracking shots, long shots, mid shots and close ups. I think there are some parts of the advert that I could have been more clinical on, there are some shots that are possibly rushed and are a tiny bit unclear. An example of this is the shot were I am tracking the person who won the award at the beginning, I follow them from behind and the camera starts out of focus but does finally go into focus. This can make the advertisement look slightly cheap and rushed.

From my research I had found lots of different advertisement that were advertising for ‘stage coaching’ or ‘stage schools’ the thing I realized was that none of these adverts had a narrative to them they all used clips of the different types of things that they offer but the adverts were just clips of drama and voice over. I noticed this trend and I didn’t want to create an advertisement that was the same as all of the others so this is why I decided to mix it up a bit. I still have used some clips of the drama space and some performing but it is a mixture of that with a narrative and voice over. I think by doing this I will gain the audience’s attention because it will clearly be a little bit different from the other adverts they may have seen before.

i have used the narrative of having an award ceremony with someone being given an award because it fits the target audience. It evolves someone being given an award for ‘acting’ and it involves someone to act out the scene so I am trying to clearly show links to drama throughout the advert making it easy for the audience to realize that it is an advert with a strong connection with drama.  So I think that this advert is appropriate for the 14-16 year old audience that I am aiming and I also believe that my target audience will easily understand the things I have discussed.

I have been given strong feedback from my client, I showed them my first draft of my advert, which they watched and then sent me a video of them analyzing it and then telling me what they would like to see in the advert to make it better. They told me I needed to add, a voiceover, a more variety of clips and a stronger starting shot. Once this feedback was given to me I went back onto final cut then began editing some more clips in a better way and then added my voice over, I then watched back through the video comparing it to the feed back the I was given. I then decided it would be appropriate to go back out and film a few more clips to fill out the advert and make it more interesting for the viewer. Once these extra clips had been filmed and then edited the advert was finished and looked very important.

In my advert I have decided to use the technique of humor to gage my audience I have used humor by creating a spoof awards evening were some one is given an award for best actor. I personally believe that humor is the easiest and most effective way of engaging my target audience. I think this because it is easier to make them laugh then to try and understand them because I don’t know them in that way. Also I believe that I am showing a solution to a problem because, if someone at Glenthorne doesn’t want to do 4 a level they cans see this advert and realize that they can do an academy as one of there choices.

more planning

Using planning docs in filming.

  • When I was filming my music video I regularly used my planning documents to help me film. The first document that I used before I even started filming was the risk asement; this was because I had to use it to check the area I was filming in for any hazards I had noted down.
  • Then the last step before I started setting up the shots was to prepare all of the equipment in a safe way following my risk assessment making sure that I am doing everything safely.
  • Once I had checked the area for hazards, I began to set up the shots from my storyboards that I have drawn out and written, and from each shot I looked at the story boards to know the shot type and if there was any movement, I mostly remembered what was going to happen in the shot but it still helped a lot having the contents of the shot written down on the storyboards.

Questionaire

These are the questionnaires I have completed to learn how much people know about the drama academy, and what they actually think about it. I have asked a mixture of open and closed questions to really get the person who is filling them outs opinion. I will be handing out my questionnaires to people who are aged roughly between 14-16 and I will be randomly handing them out which will reduce bias.

Research summary.

I have carried out research so that making my advert will be a lot easier because now i know, what the audience want, what market i am apart of and what market  i am targeting, i also have researched how i will go about making my advert.

I am now very confident with what audience i will be aiming my Advert at, i will be aiming at 14-16 year olds who will be in school years 10-11, as these are the years that they will be deciding what they want to do after High School. I then turned my attentions to what market my advert is in, i found out through my research that i would my advert was part of the performing art market, i realized this through comparing my advert idea with similar products and i realized that my ideas had allot of similarities with adverts for stage school adverts. I then found out through further research where i would be putting my advert, this i decided when carrying out Vox pops, I learnt that the easiest place for people who want to come to the drama academy to find my advert was on the Glenthorne school website. Finally i researched into rough costings for my advert and how i would go about filming for example where and when i would be ale to film.

The research that i have carried out has been very effective i feel that i am more then ready to start planning and filming my advert, once this is done i am also confident that the target audience will be met and that i have chosen the correct place to advertise.

Photoshop Tick Sheet

This is my tick sheet from my Photoshop test, as you can see i got everything correct and gained a distinction level.

Using planning docs

Here are pictures of me using my different planning documents, you can see me filming and setting up equipment. In the first two pictures i am using my storyboards to set up my shots, in the second one I'm zooming in to get a good shot. In the final picture i am using my risk assessment to safely put up the Tripod.

Saving Pulse

 This is my final logo for the VIP radio station, this is what the logo looks like in Photoshop, I am going to now save the logo firstly as a Jpeg then as a GIF.
 From the print screens above you can see me saving the logos as the two different file types- to save them i had to find out what the short cut code was for each file type.

Saving Shred

 This is my final logo for the Shred radio station, this is what the logo looks like in Photoshop, I am going to now save the logo firstly as a Jpeg then as a GIF.

Advert Analasis

Presentaion of Research

Markey Research.

-->
As part of my research I also have done some research into the market that I am entering and what things are recurring in the market. There are certain elements and key features to adverts of this type, which is an advert about a drama school/ academy.  To start with I spent time researching into places that offer a similar product – this is somewhere that is similar to Glenthorne in being a performing arts school and then offering more then just drama curriculum courses. I found another local high school ‘Carshalton Girls’ which like Glenthorne is also a specialist performing arts collage, so it specializes in the performing arts.   I found out information about them on there website, www.chgs.org.uk/.

Once I had found a product that was similar to the one I was trying to advertise or, I decided to spend time analyzing another close competitor of a higher standard. Also I wanted to find a competitor who like Glenthorne had an advertising campaign either on TV or on the Internet. From researching into this I have found the ‘Britt School’ a school n Croydon that is close to Glenthorne, the Britt school is serious performing arts school that focus highly on the development of future professional performers. On there website I found a few videos that were being used to advertise them selves to people who are possibly thinking of applying to the school. This is very useful for me to find because it is the very similar to what I want to create.

Through further research of similar products and through learning more about what I am trying to achieve. I have tried to research similar products because it has also helped me understand where I am going to need to place my video so that the people I am aiming at, can easily access and watch the advert. So I have come to the decision that I am going to place my advert online on the Glenthorne website and on the local new paper ‘The Guardian’. I have decided to advertise on these websites because, if a student is thinking of coming to Glenthorne they are very likely to go onto the website to check out the school, so they will be able to find the advert that way. Or parents who often look on the Guardian website for local news, they will see the advertisement and think that there children might be interested in it

Review of feedback.

Over the last few weeks i have carried out research into my Advert by holding a focus group using a group of people that my advert was aimed at and then asking thew question so I could find out whether i have met my original intentions. I asked the group several question about the advert including; was there anything they remembered about the video, what academy was the advert about and did it apply to them, did they like the music and camera work, and all in all did they like the advert. By asking all of these questions i am able to find out whether I have achieved my goal of creating an advert that clearly displays the drama academy and appeals to the target audience of 14-16. The feedback i received was very positive with the group praising the professionalism of the final advert and were very vocal with there opinions on the different elements used in the Advert.

I followed up my focus group by handing out questionnaires that had general questions on the final advert, this was so that i was able to understand a wider audiences views on the advert. In the questionnaire i asked similar questions that is did in the focus group except  i asked a few more question because i wanted to gain a more in depth understanding of peoples veiw on my final advert. from the chart below you can see that i have taken information that i gathered from my questionaire results and then transfered them into a chart to make it easy for me to see what the results where. This chart is made up from the results of the question ' Do you think the advert was effective' and as you can see  the majority of people have replied with yes, then a few people thinking it doesnt and another few people thinking if  partly does.
So from the Feedback i have gathered i am confident that the advert i have created is suitable for the target audience and does the intended job.

Here is another graph showing the answers from some of my questions, i asked the question ' Did you like the music'. The results from this was positive but it was mixed with a larger then expected people saying they did not like the music.

This graph is made up of all of the results from the question What was the advert about ?, the results show that people clearly understood what the advert was about.
This graph shows the results from he question, do you know what school the advert was about, the results show that everyone i asked defiantly knew that this advert was about Glenthorne drama academy.

Audience Research

-->
Audience research

In order to start my advertisement I will have to work out who I should be aiming my product at, I firstly have to work out who my target audience are, from general knowledge I know that the Drama Academy aim themselves at 16-18 year olds because those are the ages that can join the academy. So if I am advertising for people to sign up to the drama academy I believe that I should be aiming at 14-16 year olds, but to find out for sure I am going to do some research.  I am going to makeup some questionnaires that will ask people questions to do with the drama academy just to make sure I am correct in wanting to aim my product at 14-16 year olds, people of these ages will be in years 10 and 11, this is the age that they will be deciding there A levels so it is very relevant age to be aiming at.

Once I have decided on the correct target audience I will have to work out how much they actually know about the drama academy so I know what I am working with and so I know what I am going to have to do to grab there attention in the advert. To work out what my audience knew about the academy at what I needed to show them in the advert so they would understand more about it and possibly be tempted to join it. I will carry Vox Pops, which is where I record myself asking lots of different individuals questions.  I will ask the about 7 questions all to do with the academy and what they know about it.

Finally I want to know where my audience thinks that the best place to out the advertisement will be.  I will be doing this because I need to know where they think they will see it the most often because I need my target audience to be able to see it. So I will be carrying out one to one interviews with a number of different people aged between 14-16.  Will ask them questions about where they would go to to watch something like this. I think that the best place to advertise the drama academy would be the Glenthorne website, which is s local school website that can be accessed by young people very easily. To see if this is a good idea or not I will have to ask certain questions in the interviews to find out whether my target audience would agree.

Story Boards

Final Edit

-->
After receiving some good and helpful feedback from my client I re editing my advert by adding in more clips and editing in different more professional ways so that the final outcome will be more professional.

I have added in 4 m ore shots into my final edit, I have added a shot of someone putting the lights up in a drama room and then the camera panning up to show the lights shinning up on the stage, by adding these shots I am showing the audience the sort of facilities that the drama academy can offer.  I then added in shots that were very similar but instead of putting the lights up the lights were being put down, I liked these shots because these shots are symbolizing a beginning and an end to the advert whilst showing off the facilities.

I am very close to finishing the final edit and when it is done It will be clear to see the improvements that I have made from my rough edit it to my final edit.

-->
Here is my final outcome, I have worked hard and spent lots of time editing and correction things in my advert to make it look like a professional advertisement that can be played on TV             or online to get the attention of 14-16 year olds and try and get them to consider taking the drama academy as one of there options whilst studying A levels.

I am very happy with my final outcome as there are lots of good shots, and I have edited it professionally,  using final cut. I have also used voice over in an effective way that engages the audience with quick snappy tag lines but also with giving them the option of finding out more information on the website.

 I think that the final outcome I have produced will meet the clients expectations and they will be very happy with my work as I have not only produced what they wanted I have produced it to a very high standard.

uploading all my work

Today I uploaded all of my footage from my memory card onto the Macs and then put them into final cut where I can now start to edit the footage and put together a rough version of my advert. Before I put my footage into final cut I put it into Imovie where I optimized the footage into widescreen so it would fit into the frame size on final cut.
      When I was putting my videos into final cut I had my first chance to look in-depth at all of the footage that I had got on a big screen. Once I looked through I was still happy with the footage I had filmed but I realized further that there were some clips that needed to be re filmed or edited to make them suitable for my advert. There is clips I have used were I am tracking my actor and it is shaky and blurry and it just was not acceptable to have in my advert so I had to delete the clip.

Rushes

Today I filmed clips for my final advertisement for the first time; I filmed in various places nut mainly around the drama area in Glenthorne high school. I filmed a variety of shots so that when editing I could narrow down the best ones to use in my final advert. I think that some of the shots that I tried to film were a little bit blurry so if I film again I will have to make sure that I double check that the camera is in full focus.

 My favorite shot of the filming was when my actor walks in and I filmed it from a good angle that made it look realistic as if he had walked in from off stage. My worst shot was a shot of the two actors and I did pay enough attention and I have chopped off the top of the heads of them, this as because I was not paying enough attention and I had to re film the shots. All in all the footage I have gained is good and I am happy with what I have done.
